In the late 1970’s, L Ron Hubbard assigned Gerry Armstrong to help Omar Garrison write Hubbard’s biography. Hubbard gave Armstrong access to all of his archives so that Gerry could go through them and order them for Garrison to use.
But as Gerry began organizing Hubbard’s writings about himself, he realized that L Ron Hubbard and the Church of Scientology had been lying about Hubbard’s life, in order to sell Scientology to the public, since the beginning of the subject.
At that time, Hubbard was on the lam from the law, so Gerry went to his seniors such as Norman Starkey, David Miscavige and others, and naively said, “Hey you guys. Hubbard has been lying about his biography and we are committing fraud by publishing it.”
Their response to Gerry revealed their criminality, and Gerry’s actions from there on, and to this day, revealed his heroism. Gerry has, personally, gained only ruin for himself for his courage in getting us the information we needed to make more informed decisions about our involvement in Scientology.
