I’ve watched so many civil lawsuits in my 25 years out of Scientology hoping to “bring down Scientology” for its real victims. Every civil lawsuit has ended in no change to its tax exempt status, nor to David Miscavige’s power to do anything he wants to Scientologists.
With civil lawsuits Scientology gets bad press – sure. They become unpopular.
But Scientology was always hated, since the 1950’s. Their hated minority religious status plays well into the US religious freedom clause of the First Amendment. Law Enforcement must always ensure that they do not act on a minority if it’s simply unpopular. In fact, they must keep their guard up to uphold the constitution.
So nothing has changed with Scientology’s policies or practices from any civil lawsuit.
Lawsuits pay money to individuals, not to the victims of crimes – such as Scientology’s murders made to look like suicides.
